Case summary
According to the investigation, he arrived at Mariupol (Donetsk region of Ukraine) in November 2022, but before that he was recruited by the Ukrainian military at the checkpoint under the threat of reprisals against his relatives. In March 2023, he was detained by Russian security services on charges of treason and possession of explosives: according to the investigation, he took photographs of various Russian objects for the Ukrainian security services and received parcels with homemade explosives. On 8 August 2024, Tabuyev was sentenced to 15 years in a strict regime colony. The court reclassified the charge of possession of explosives to attempted possession. On 28 November 2024, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by three months.
