Case summary

According to friends, a participant of the Afghan and Chechen wars and a left-wing activist. The Investigative Committee denied that Timofeev had ever taken part in combat operations or had anything to do with military service, it also stated that he had multiple prior convictions. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Timofeev had criticized the Russian authorities on social media. As a result, his VKontakte page was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

No later than November 2022, a case of public justification of terrorism was opened against Timofeev; later it became known that he was also charged with spreading deliberately false information about armed forces of the Russian Federation. Timofeev was placed under house arrest.

During the trial, the prosecutor asked for a suspended sentence of two years, taking into account Timofeev's combat experience, but on April 25 2023, the court sentenced him to three years in actual imprisonment. On September 11, the appellate court reduced the term by four months.

On July 22, 2025, at the request of the administration of Penal Colony No. 13 in the Sverdlovsk region, the court imposed administrative supervision on Timofeev for eight years.

In October 2025, he was released from the colony.
