Case summary

Political scientist. Demuri (Dieter) was detained in February 2021, when he arrived in Russia from Germany. He was charged with high treason as part of the prosecution of journalist Ivan Safronov: his communication with Voronin became the reason for the appearance of a second episode in Safronov's case of high treason. Voronin was sentenced to 13 years and three months in a strict regime colony. He was released on 1 August 2024 as part of a large-scale prisoner exchange between Russia and Germany.
