Case summary

On 17th of February, 2021, he was detained and taken into custody on charges of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization in connection with alleged involvement in the Islamist "Hizb-ut-Tahrir" party, which has nothing to do with terrorism. On 22nd of March 2022, he was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime penal colony. In November of 2023, it came to light that Yalkabov was forced to shave his head in prison, after which they tried to force him to wash it under cold water in the sink. Prior to that, Yalkabov reported that after being transferred to a quarantine facility, his personal hygiene items began to disappear.
