Case summary
Aliyev was accused of a violent assault against a representative of the authorities. On 21 February 2020, he was sentenced to a year and eight months in a penal colony. On 16 March he was released. On 23 June, the cassation court initiated a case review. On 12 March 2021, the court passed a similar sentence, though this time it additionally found a political motive in Aliyev's actions.
