Case summary

A citizen of Tajikistan, lived in Moscow. Detained on 22 June 2017, during a search in his flat electronic versions of Hizb ut-Tahrir materials were found. According to his relatives, Dzhurayev had stopped contacting them since May 2017. In addition to involvement in the activities of a terrorist organisation, Dzhurayev was also accused of document forgery because, according to the investigation, he presented an operative of the Centre for Countering Extremism with a false passport in the name of a Kyrgyz citizen, and then during the interrogation said that he used it because he was wanted in Uzbekistan. Later during questioning, Dzhurayev said that he lost his Uzbek passport in 2016 and did not restore it. The investigation claimed that Dzhurayev had given Hizb ut-Tahrir materials to his flatmate. The persecuted denied this. As of the end of February 2018, the case went to court. On 4 April 2018, he was sentenced to ten years and two months in a strict regime penal colony.
