Case summary

A Resident of the town of Vuktyl (Komi Republic). He ran an anti-war blog. In October 2022, he was fined 30,000 rubles under the article on discrediting the army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences) for a comment on a post about Rosgvardia officers' visit to a children's hospital. Farafonov questioned whether the officers there had spoken about children dying in Ukraine, to whom "the Russian world was brought on bayonets." "Sever. Realii" reported that he was initially unable to gather the money for the fine, and due to the delayed payment, he was fined an additional 30,000 roubles. On 20 September 2023, Farafonov was detained and the following day taken into custody in connection with a case of public justification of terrorism. On 15 January 2023, his pre-trial detention was extended by 6 months. On 27 March 2024, Farafonov was sentenced to 6 years in a general regime colony. A separate libel case was also brought against Farafonov, the details remain unknown. According to the verdict, an additional 15 days of imprisonment were added to his previous sentence.
