According to the prosecutor's office, in April 2024 Kromsky and Vernyaev, motivated by personal interest, entered into a criminal conspiracy aimed at the repeated public dissemination of knowingly false information defaming the honour, dignity and undermining the reputation of a deputy of the Voronezh Regional Duma in order to force the latter to resign. For this purpose, they produced and subsequently distributed leaflets of a defamatory and insulting nature in the city of Borisoglebsk, as well as repeatedly published a number of articles of similar content on the Internet. In the court's opinion, Vernyaev also at the end of December, without actually seeking medical assistance in medical institutions and without legally obtaining a document confirming the treatment provided, wishing to avoid the possibility of being subjected to a preventive measure in the form of detention, submitted a forged certificate from a medical institution about his treatment in order to refute his intentional evasion from participation in the investigative actions.
