Case summary

Resident of Borisoglebsk (Voronezh region). Together with activists of the "Borisoglebsk Anti-Corruption Committee" wrote complaints against Dmitry Shiryaev, a deputy of the Regional Duma. In their opinion, the unanimous activist did not fulfil his duties to his constituents. The activists also demanded to check the deputy's oil factory, which, according to them, discharges waste into the Khoper River. In June 2024, a case was opened against Vernyaev because of leaflets defaming Shiryaev. He denies involvement. For the duration of the investigation, he was given a covenant not to leave.

On 21 October 2025, the court sentenced him to 450 hours of compulsory labour. On 26 February 2026, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by 50 hours.
