Case summary
Resident of Moscow. Detained and taken into custody on 19 February 2020 on charges of involvement in the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with involvement in the activities of the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Its adherents are persecuted solely because of their religious activities. On 7 July 2021, Khalmatov was sentenced to three and a half years in a general regime colony. Presumably released in October 2022, after which he was probably detained and later apparently deported.
