Case summary

A Moscow resident. He was arrested and taken into custody on February 19, 2020, on charges of involvement in an extremist organization due to his involvement with the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Its adherents are persecuted solely for their religious activities. On July 7, 2021, Kalbaev was sentenced to six years in a general regime penal colony. He was presumably released in April 2025, after which he was detained and later, apparently, deported.
