Case summary

Lived in Khabarovsk, then in Moscow, lawyer. On 18 November 2019, he was detained in Khabarovsk and sent to Moscow and sent to custody the next day in the case of contract killings in 2004 and 2005. Karepov later reported that he was pressured to testify against the former governor of Khabarovsk Krai Sergey Furgal, whom the investigation considered the organiser of the murders. On 10 February 2023, Karepov was sentenced to 21 years in a strict regime penal colony on charges of murder and attempted murder by an organised group for hire. He was also accused of weapons possession, but was released from punishment on this charge due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
