Case summary

Ukrainian politician, one of the founders of the right-wing radical party UNA-UNSO and the "Brotherhood" party. Courts in the Russian Federation recognized both parties as extremist. In 2014, Korchynskii was prosecuted for calls to war terrorism: according to the investigation, he in particular called for waging war on the territory of Crimea and "other regions of the Russian Federation". In November 2015, he was detained in Italy at the request of the Russian Federation to Interpol, but was released the same day. On 24 February 2022, Korchinskii created the "Brotherhood" battalion as a unit within the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. A case of incitement to hatred was filed against him and the battalion commander Aleksei Serediuk. In February 2025, the case went to court. On 15 August 2025, Korchynskii was sentenced in absentia to 5 years of imprisonment.
