Case summary

A resident of Sochi, a history teacher, formerly a professional rhythmic gymnast, worked as a children's coach. In 2023, she received three days of administrative arrest because of a poster with a cartoon image of Putin resembling Hitler. In 2024, Kostrov was fined 30,000 roubles because of the words "No to War". In March 2025, a case was brought against her for repeated display of Nazi symbols because of the publication of a German poster from the Second World War. The historical poster was accompanied by a text explaining the meaning and forming a negative attitude towards fascist ideology. Kostrova was detained and taken to a pre-trial detention centre, threatening that she would stay there for a year or two. The court did not elect her detention as a preventive measure. On 26 November 2025, Kostrova was sentenced to one and a half years in a penal colony. On 28 January 2026, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by two months.
