Case summary

On 16 August 2013, an uncoordinated peaceful action of solidarity with Sergei Cherepovsky, accused of using violence against a police officer, organised by Moscow civil activists, took place in front of the Central District Court in Tver; during the unjustifiably harsh detention of activists by Tver police officers on duty outside the court building, a conflict broke out between Vera Lavreshina, who had fallen to the ground, and the police colonel who had detained her; on 18 August, a case was opened against Lavreshina for violence against a representative of the authorities; on the same day, an investigator of the Investigative Department for the city of Tver of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Tver Region applied for a preventive measure against the suspect Lavreshina in the form of remand in custody; On 20 August, the Moscow District Court of Tver decided to extend Lavreshina's detention in custody for 72 hours, and on 23 August elected a final preventive measure in the form of house arrest; on the same day, the senior investigator filed charges against her; on 15 October, the investigator changed Lavreshina's measure of restraint to signing a custody agreement; on 10 February 2014, she was sentenced to a fine of 30,000 roubles.
