Alikhan Maashayev

According to the investigation, acting in concert with Abdul Avtorkhanov and Islam Terloyev, while at the Alley of Glory in Nevinnomyssk, a public place, on the pedestal of the Eternal Glory Obelisk, a regional cultural heritage monument erected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Soviet power in memory of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945), Alikhan Maashayev acted intentionally and with awareness of the public danger of his actions. He foresaw the inevitable socially harmful consequences in the form of violating the general principles established by Article 44 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which establishes the duty of every citizen to preserve historical and cultural heritage and protect monuments of history and culture, yet showed indifference toward these consequences. With the intent to publicly desecrate symbols of Russia’s military glory and insult the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, thereby demonstrating blatant disrespect for Russian society, he twice raised and lowered the soles of his shoes toward the Eternal Flame and spat into it at least twice.
