Case summary

Resident of Moscow. On October 20, 2021, his house was searched, he was detained and interrogated. On October 22, the court ruled to take him into custody on charges of involving in the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are persecuted under extremist articles solely for their religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, and attracting new supporters. On July 12, 2023, he was sentenced to four and a half years in a general regime colony. On October 25, 2024, Mareev was released.
