Martynyuk is accused of serving as a private in the 24th Territorial Defense Battalion of the AFU "Aidar", which the Russian authorities consider as participation in a terrorist community. The investigation has no evidence of specific terrorist acts committed by Martyniuk. It is known that he was on duty at checkpoints and guarded the "Aidar" deployment point. Mykola Martyniuk does not deny this. He claims that he was mobilised on the basis of the decree of the President of Ukraine and was fulfilling his military duty. He insists that he was not a member of a terrorist organization or community but served in the 24th Territorial Defense Battalion of the AFU "Aidar."

Full summary
Resident of Luhansk region (Ukraine). In the past - military serviceman. From August 2014 to 20 July 2015, he served in the 24th separate assault battalion of the AFU "Aidar" on mobilisation. Supposedly detained in April 2022 in the occupied territory of Luhansk region. Taken into custody on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist community in connection with service in the "Aidar" battalion. On 5 December 2023, Martynyuk was sentenced to five and a half years in a general regime penal colony.
