Roman Maryan

A resident of Krasnoyarsk. At the end of October 2017, police officers removed him from a train at Achinsk station and took him to Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 1 in Krasnoyarsk. According to the Memorial Human Rights Centre website, the activist was travelling to Moscow to participate in the Russian March and the 5.11.17 Revolution, organised by opposition figure Vyacheslav Maltsev. The Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Krasnoyarsk then ordered Maryan’s arrest for two months on charges of preparing to participate in mass riots (Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code, applied together with Part 1 of Article 30). On 27 January 2018, the court extended his arrest for a further two months. According to the investigation, Roman Maryan received a letter calling for an armed uprising on 5 November 2017 in Moscow and was preparing to take part.

On 27 August 2018, the court sentenced Maryan to three years and two months in a general regime penal colony. He was released on 15 June 2020.

On 24 December 2024, Maryan was detained again and taken into custody in a case concerning the financing of terrorist activities, due to a donation made to the Artpodgotovka movement. On 18 June 2025, the court sentenced him to nine years’ imprisonment, with the first three years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony.
