Case summary
He lived and worked in Dagestan and came to Odintsovo near Moscow to look for a doctor for his son - the child was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
He was detained on 7 May 2014 and taken into custody. Initially the case was initiated under the article on illegal possession of explosives, in October the charge of preparation to commit a terrorist act was added. Rizakhanov was testified to by his flatmates, who were initially also taken into custody, but were later sentenced to six months' imprisonment and released due to time served.
In June 2015, a case was also opened against Rizakhanov for the manufacture of explosives. The cases were merged.
Human rights activists consider the case to be falsified and regard it as part of a campaign to pressure Muslims.
On 10 March 2016, Rizakhanov was sentenced to 14 years in a strict regime colony. He died in custody in February 2021.
