Case summary

On 9 February 2022, Seitosmanov’s home was searched. He was detained in a case of organising the activities of a terrorist organisation and taken into custody. Later he was also charged with preparation for a violent seizure of power. On 24 May 2023, Seitosmanov was sentenced to 18 years in a strict-regime penal colony. On 1 November, the court of appeals reclassified the charge from organising the activities of a terrorist organisation to participation in such activities and reduced the sentence by six months.

Seitosmanov is being held in a 1.5 by 2 meter cell, designed for two people. There is no ventilation, it is very damp, and “everything crumbles”. The cell was cold until the beginning of April, but the temperature has now normalised. The man and his cellmate drink tap water.
