Case summary

Criminal charges were brought against Ildar Shaykhutdinov and other members of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Kazan in connection with a series of rallies with the use of symbols of the banned movement, including pickets and car rallies, which were dedicated to the ban on translating the Koran and the persecution of Muslims; shortly before his arrest, he submitted a letter to the administration of Tatarstan about the persecution of Muslims; was taken to pre-trial detention and sentenced to five and a half years' imprisonment in a general regime colony.
