Case summary
A resident of Crimea. On 5th February 2025, he was detained after a search. On the same day, he was placed in custody on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation, namely the Islamic party "Hizb ut-Tahrir". The party aims to establish a worldwide caliphate and some of its members have made very radical statements about Israel since the Hamas attack on 7th October 2023. The party is banned in a number of countries. Nevertheless, there is no evidence that any of its members were involved in the terrorist attacks. Experts consider the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation from 2003, which banned "Hizb ut-Tahrir", to be unjustified.
