Case summary

On the 4th of October 2016, he was apprehended while exchanging 120 thousand rubles and taken into custody on the 6th of October. He faced charges related to mediating in commercial bribery that involved extortion. On the 1st of March 2017, the charges were reclassified under the article pertaining to large-scale extortion. Following the completion of the preliminary investigation, Stepanchenko had limited time to acquaint himself with the case materials.

On the 1st of June 2017, during the preliminary hearing, he was assaulted by the head of the jail cell at the police station due to his demand, along with Alexei Nazimov, for the rights of those under investigation to be upheld, particularly the provision of medical care. On the 22nd of November 2018, he received a sentence of three years and nine months in a general regime penal colony.
