Case summary

He was detained and arrested in October 2016 along with eight other people on charges of participating in the activities of an extremist organization. A search was conducted at his home. Sultanov admitted involvement in “Tablighi Jamaat” but refused to acknowledge that he had participated in the activities of an extremist organization. On April 20, 2017, he was sentenced to three years in a penal colony. On September 26, the court of appeal reduced the sentence to two years and four months. He was released on March 1, 2019.
