Case summary

Lawyer, President of the Udmurtia Bar Association. One of the lawyers of journalist Ivan Safronov, accused under the article on state treason.

Detained on 28 June 2022 in Izhevsk on suspicion of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of hatred or hostility and taken to Moscow. The next day, the court decided to take him into custody. Later, a case was also filed against him for incitement to hatred against social groups "representatives of the authorities, governing bodies in the Russian Federation" and "supporters of the Russian president from among lawyers who support the special military operation." In July, defence lawyer Daniil Berman said that there was no room for Talantov in the pre-trial detention facility. In December, the case was transferred to the Zavyalovsky District Court of Udmurtia.

Talantov suffers from hypertension, and his blood pressure was recorded at 220/120 when he arrived at the pre-trial detention centre.

On 28 November 2024, the lawyer was sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony.

On 31 October 2025, the court of appeal reduced the term by two months. In December it became known that Talantov was deprived of his lawyer status.
