According to the court, it was established that in late December 2016, Victoria Tkachenko, while in the self-proclaimed "Luhansk People's Republic" (LNR), signed a contract for military service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for a period of five years. After completing initial training in April 2017, she was assigned to the Aidar battalion. The court found that, despite being aware of the alleged terrorist nature of the battalion's activities, she continued to fulfil her duties under the terms of the contract. From April 2017 to November 2020, Tkachenko served in various roles in the territories of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" (DNR) and "Luhansk People's Republic" (LNR). During this period, she held positions as an operator, line observer, senior telephonist-grenade launcher, shooter-sniper, and combat medic at different times.

Full summary
Victoria Tkachenko, a resident of the Luhansk Region of Ukraine, served from 2017 to 2020 in the former Ukrainian battalion Aidar, which was later re-formed into the 24th Separate Assault Battalion as part of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She was taken into custody in 2022, following the occupation of the region by Russian forces, and charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation.
On 21 December 2023, Victoria was sentenced to five years in a penal settlement. However, on 13 September 2024, she was returned to Ukraine as part of a prisoner exchange.
