Russian-installed authorities in Yalta have begun equipping courtyards of apartment buildings with cooking stations where residents can prepare food, the first deputy head of the city administration, Sergei Olefirenko, said on Wednesday. He said such points are needed for more than 1,500 buildings, primarily those that are not connected to gas supply.
“It is impossible to cover more than 1,500 buildings in one day, but work has started,” Olefirenko said. He also said the administration is negotiating with local businesses to prepare meals for residents at cost price.
Yalta is the first city in Crimea whose authorities have announced the deployment of courtyard kitchens during the current energy crisis. According to 2022 statistics, the city district contains 2,760 apartment buildings.
The energy, logistics and fuel crisis in Crimea has been ongoing for several weeks. It is caused by the military campaign of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which aims to isolate the peninsula.
