Case summary

On 24 January 2023, FSB officers conducted searches in different villages of the Dzhankoi district in Crimea, targeting Crimean Tatars. As a result, six people were detained and transferred to Simferopol, including Aider Asanov. The next day, a court ordered all six to pre-trial detention on charge of participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation and preparation for a violent seizure of power due to their involvement in the Islamic party "Hizb ut-Tahrir", which has not been linked to any acts of violence.

At the pre-trial detention hearing, lawyers who intended to assist the detainees were not allowed to attend, as they were already representing other defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. A crowd of local residents gathered outside the courthouse, and police detained more than 30 people.

Asanov told his wife that the detention centre staff were putting pressure on him and other political prisoners.

On 22 August 2023, the case was submitted to the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don.

On 29 April 2025, Asanov was sentenced to 11 years in a strict regime colony.
