Egor Beloglazov

Egor Beloglazov was a resident of Yekaterinburg and a poet. He spoke out on social media against the war, political repression, and the Russian authorities. On 1 April 2025, a search was carried out at his home. It later became known that a criminal case had been opened against him on charges of insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland and offending the feelings of believers.

The first charge was related to an image depicting Vladimir Putin with St George ribbons protruding from his eyes and mouth.

The charge of offending the feelings of believers concerned three posts on VKontakte. One of them featured an anime-style image of Jesus and the Mother of God, accompanied by a comment by Beloglazov in which he compared the New Testament to fan fiction based on the Old Testament. The poet noted that the Old Testament contains elements resembling yaoi and yuri—genres of manga and anime depicting same-sex relationships between male or female characters.

Another post contained a demotivator showing an explosion and the TOS-1 “Buratino” heavy flamethrower system, with a caption comparing the explosion to the descent of the Holy Fire at Easter. The third post was a screenshot of a message from the social network X (formerly Twitter) by a user known as “Professor Talk”, who wrote that the war in Ukraine would end only if Vladimir Putin went to the front line and was killed.

Beloglazov was placed under a travel restriction.

He had been assigned a Group III disability status. He had suffered from bronchial asthma since childhood, which gradually worsened, and after contracting COVID-19 in 2020 his condition deteriorated further. Since then, Beloglazov had been forced to breathe using an oxygen concentrator and could remain disconnected from the device for no more than an hour. In March 2025, shortly before the search, the poet fell into a coma after his blood oxygen saturation dropped below 60 per cent. In addition, he had severe mobility problems due to his left leg: several years earlier it had stopped bending as a result of aseptic necrosis of the femoral head.

Beloglazov died in December 2025.
