Case summary
A resident of the town of Togliatti, judo wrestler. On 16 June, 2023, he was detained in the town of Sudzha (Kursk region). Makaev was taken into custody. He was charged with preparation for high treason, preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation and attempted illegal border crossing. According to the investigation, he intended to join the Freedom of Russia legion. On 21 December, 2023, Makayev was sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime prison colony. On 13 March, 2024, the court of appeal overturned the sentence and remanded the case for a new trial. On 19 April, 2024, Makaev was again sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime prison colony.
