On May 11, 2016, a case was opened against him for participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation, on May 12 he was detained on suspicion of cooperation with Hizb ut-Tahrir, and on May 13 he was formally arrested. Also accused of preparation for violent seizure of power. On December 24, 2018, he was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony. On July 11, 2019, the court of appeal reduced his sentence by three months.
