According to the investigation, "fully aware that from 3 March 2025 to 19 April 2025 one of the main Orthodox holidays, Great Lent leading up to Easter, was being observed across the Russian Federation, [he] acted deliberately, together with other unidentified individuals, with the intention of offending the religious feelings of believers by tearing down Easter decorations." The ruling on the initiation of the case also notes that an Orthodox icon was thrown to the floor, accompanied by threats of violence.
