According to the investigation, in the period from December 2, 2023 to May 9, 2024, sharing the ideology of Nazism, opposing the Russian authorities and the "SVO", he joined the "Russian Volunteer Corps": he became interested in the activities, began to search for information, then decided to join, contacting representatives via Telegram-bot. He was sent a link to a questionnaire for joining the Russian Volunteer Corps, and filled it out. The representatives of the RVC offered him a position as a storm trooper, which he declined, so the question of his duties was to be decided after his arrival. He had to meet with the "recruiter" of the RVC in Tbilisi and in case his candidature was approved he had to leave for Ukraine. To cover the costs of the trip, he took a loan of almost 45,000 roubles from the bank.

Later Tomilov reported that force was used against him during the detention.
