According to the investigation, “while in the territory of Krasnodar Krai, he decided to take part in the activities of the banned terrorist Ukrainian paramilitary association Freedom of Russia Legion. Acting on this intention, with the aim of travelling to Ukraine and joining the ranks of the organisation, on 28 May 2025, he entered into correspondence with an individual engaged in recruiting and organising the departure of Russian citizens wishing to join the said organisation. During this correspondence, on the same day, Yakovenko sent the representative of the Legion a pre-prepared questionnaire for joining its ranks.”.
