Case summary
Crimean Solidarity activist. On 27 March 2019, his house was searched. The next day, Arifmemetov was detained in Rostov-on-Don. The same day he was taken into custody on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation. Remzi Bekirov, who was detained with him in the same case, later said that they were beaten during the arrest, Arifmemetov losing consciousness, then taken to the forest, where they were beaten again, and then driven for six hours in handcuffs fastened behind their backs, threatened and intimidated along the way. Arifmemetov was sent to a pre-trial detention centre in the Rostov region, and later transferred back to Crimea. In March 2020, it was revealed that Arifmemetov was also accused of preparing to overthrow the constitutional order. In September 2021, Arifmemetov was removed from the courtroom for speaking Crimean Tatar. In November, it was revealed that he was returned to the trial.
On 24 November 2022, he was sentenced to 14 years in a strict regime penal colony.
In December 2023, it was revealed that Arifmemetov is not receiving his purchases from the penal colony shop.
