Case summary

From 2015 until April 2019, he was chief of staff of the detachment, head of the personnel department, deputy commander of the detachment for weapons and equipment in the Azov special purpose regiment. Was dismissed. At the time of the outbreak of the war, he was engaged in small business in the town of Mongush (Donetsk region). On 16 April 2022, he was detained. Gritsyk was accused of forcible seizure and retention of power and organising the activities of a terrorist organisation. Human rights activists note that he is a prisoner of war, so he should not have been held criminally liable actually for participation in hostilities, and in addition, consider the charges absurd. On 26 March 2025, Gritsyk was sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime colony.
