Case summary

From 2015 and until May 2020 he worked as a mechanic-driver in the Ukrainian regiment "Azov", then he resigned. He was detained in April 2022 in Mariupol. He was accused of forcible seizure and retention of power, organising the activities of a terrorist organisation and undergoing training to carry out terrorist activities. Human rights activists note that he is a prisoner of war, therefore he should not have been held criminally liable for participation in combat operations, and in addition, consider the charges absurd. On 26 March 2025, Irkha was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.
