Case summary
A resident of the Kherson region, Ukraine, an auto mechanic (according to other sources, the head of a fishing enterprise). On July 8 (according to other sources, July 19), 2022, he was detained and then kept in the basement. He said that he was tortured, in particular, with electric shocks, beaten, his hands were crushed in a door, and needles were inserted under his fingernails. For seven days, he was suspended from a metal grate. On October 6, 2022, he was transported to Simferopol, prior to that, he had been forced to sign several sheets, the contents of which were hidden from him. In Simferopol he was formally remanded in custody. On October 14, he was transferred to Moscow. Geidt was charged with attempted commission of an act of international terrorism and participation in the activities of a terrorist community. During the investigation, he confessed, in particular, that he had personally informed the occupation administration of Kherson that an assassination attempt was being prepared on its employee Aleksei Kovalev. Later, in court, he retracted this testimony, saying that he had given it under threat of beatings and harm to his wife and daughter. In court, he also pointed out that the addresses and names of villages listed in the records concerning attesting witnesses did not exist. On January 26, 2026, Geidt was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony.
