Case summary

Sergey is a resident of the Kherson region of Ukraine, a sales manager. He was detained together with another person prosecuted in the case, Konstantin Reznik, in a shop on 21 July 2022 and kept in a certain basement until 6 October 2022, where, according to him, they were tortured with a stun gun by connecting electrodes to their little fingers, genitals and buttocks, and beaten by tying them to the bars. They were taken to the investigative actions with Reznik in the boot. The investigative actions were staged videos: armed masked men rushed at Kabakov and detained him; when they took off their masks, they were the same men who had tortured him in the basement. At one point, he said, he was forced to leave fingerprints on a plastic explosive. He signed a consent to the search several times, but was not present during the searches. On 6 October, he was taken to Simferopol, where he was officially taken into custody, and then to Moscow. Kabakov was accused of participation in the activities of a terrorist community and preparation and attempt to commit an act of international terrorism. One of the attempts imputed to Kabakov, according to the investigation, took place on 2 August 2022, when Kabakov was already effectively detained. In addition, the defence noted that the bottle of baby food "Agusha", appearing in the video about the detention of Kabakov, allegedly seized from him during detention, which, according to the investigation, contained an explosive substance, has a later date of manufacture relative to the day of his actual detention. On 30 January 2026, he was sentenced to 20 years in a strict regime penal colony.
