On May 21, 2018 he was detained and later arrested on charges of involvement in a terrorist organisation for alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which has no connection to terrorism. In February 2019, he was also accused of preparing for a violent seizure of power.
On September 16, 2020, sentenced to 13 years in a strict-regime penal colony.
