Case summary

Kurlov was detained in September 2021 in Moscow and taken into custody on charges of involvement in organising mass riots in connection with correspondence on the Telegram channel "Chto-Delat!"(What to Do!), where possible protest actions during the Duma elections were discussed. Later it became known that Kurlov was also accused of inciting hatred. On April 5, 2024, he was sentenced to six years in a general regime penal colony. He was released in February 2026.
