Case summary
He is the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe, one of the founders of the Free University educational project, and a member of the governing board of the Anti-War Committee of Russia - all of these organisations have been recognised as "undesirable". In September 2022, Martynov was included in the register of "foreign agents". In September 2024, it became known that a case was brought against him for organizing the activities of an "undesirable organization". On April 22, 2025, Martynov was sentenced in absentia to six years. On October 14, 2025, the FSB announced that a case of violent seizure of power and organization of activities of a terrorist community had been opened against Martynov and other members of the Anti-War Committee of Russia. The Berlin Declaration on the need for regime change in Russia served as the pretext for drafting it.
