He was detained on 4 February 2015 together with 30 other suspects in connection with alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, unrelated to terrorism, arrested on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation; in January 2016 was also charged with preparation for a violent seizure of power. On 30 July 2018, he was sentenced to 13 years in strict regime colony.
